"I had tried every diet in every book, also trying tablets, but my weight is was always going up and down- sorry better say more up that down, it got up to 148 Kg (23.5 stone}. Suddenly my health start getting worse. I started suffering with back problems, my cholesterol started getting higher and higher, my blood pressure got high, my liver got fat, I got sleep apnoea, my asthma got worse and I was getting out of breath more often.
After consulting my G.P. several times about all these issues, he told me that Gastric Band surgery was an alternative option to lose the weight and start improving my health, My G.P. referred me to Mr Horner. Mr Horner explained to me what the procedure was, all the risks involving surgery, and what would be the benefits after surgery. He told me to go home, talk through everything with my wife, think that it could be the solution to my problems, and then to came back to see him again and give him an answer. My answer was yes.
At the beginning of 2006 all the tests blood test, x-rays, endoscopy were completed. All of this was to make sure that I was suitable for the surgery. Only after everything was clear, Mr Horner gave the go ahead with the gastric band operation. On 22nd December 2006, I had the band inserted and since then I have seen Mr Horner 6 monthly with band fills when required.
My appetite has been slowly reducing, and after 12 months I started to see the improvement and the change in my body and life.
By January 2009, I had lost over 45 KG, with such an improvement in my life that I was able to do many more things every day without problems.
Thanks to Mr Horner and the support of his team, I now have a better life.
From my wife’s point of view, we now do more together as a family, like going to the park and running around, and one of the benefits, is I can fit on the rides in the fairground with my children."
